Working full-time and writing it in a couple of months. Trying to budget realistically — is six weeks enough or am I kidding myself?
Most candidates need roughly six to eight focused weeks. Six is aggressive but doable if you have the time; eight is more realistic if you're working full-time. Plan for about 10 to 15 hours a week — if you can push to 15+, you can compress toward the six-week end.
More important than the calendar is how you weight those hours: don't split them evenly across all nine elements. Front-load the heavy, scenario-based elements (Securities/managed products, Scope of client relationships, and Conflicts of interest and ethics, which are about half the exam) plus whichever elements you're personally weakest on. A sensible arc is a diagnostic in week one to find your gaps, element-by-element content work through the middle weeks until you're consistently hitting 70%+, then full timed mocks under exam conditions at the end.
Book the exam when you're clearing 70% on full mocks, no element is dragging badly, and you're finishing with time to spare — not before. Booking early to 'motivate yourself' is how people end up paying for a retake.
