Went to CIRO's CIRE page and couldn't find a clear way to sign up — just a pile of PDFs and links. What's the actual process?
The confusion is real, and it's because CIRO doesn't run registration itself — it's outsourced to Fitch Learning, which split the process across two separate portals. You pay on one, you schedule on the other.
Step one is the Enrollment Portal: create an account, select the CIRE, pay the $475 (credit card only — no invoicing or 'bill my firm'), and complete a quick eligibility attestation. That attestation is basically a checkbox — you confirm you're the age of majority and either work at a CIRO dealer, plan to apply to one within 12 months, or are taking the CIRE as a prerequisite for another CIRO exam. No sponsorship letter needed. One critical detail: the name you register must exactly match your government photo ID, or the proctor can turn you away and you burn an attempt.
After payment clears, you get a confirmation email with credentials for the second site, the Candidate Portal — that's where you log in to actually book your date. Don't delete that email or let it go to spam. From there you pick your date and delivery method and you're set.

When you book, you choose between a Prometric test centre and remote proctoring. The test-centre option is the 'just let me write it without worrying about my Wi-Fi' route — they provide the computer and invigilator, you show up with ID. Remote lets you write from home with a live proctor watching via webcam, but the tech setup is entirely on you: if your webcam or connection fails and you didn't test your system, it can be recorded as an absent, which counts as a failed attempt.
If you go remote, test your setup at least four days ahead so you have runway to switch to a centre if something's wrong. ID must be original, government-issued, unexpired, and match your registration exactly. And note the reschedule cutoff — free 36+ hours out, but under 36 hours you're locked in.
